Filming has started on the Madame Web comic with Dakota Johnson:all we know
The Spider-Man spin-off will be released on wide screens in the fall of 2023.
A fascinating web to unravel. The takeover of the Spider-Man universe continues with a new action-adventure film that is built around a woman. Plot details are not yet known, but the picture's title states the story of the Marvel Comics heroine, Madame Web. She first appeared in issue 210 of The Amazing Spider-Man (1980) and is a mutant with the gift of clairvoyance, predicting the future of superheroes in the Spider-Man universe. In the comics, Madame Spider Web not only guides Peter Parker's alter ego, but also some of his buddies. She is usually depicted as an elderly, blind and paralyzed woman surrounded by a semblance of artificial web designed to keep her alive.
It should be noted that the story has been in development by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios for several years. In May 2020, director S.J. Clarkson was hired to direct the "female" comic book. Charlize Theron and Amy Adams were considered for the lead roles at the time. The studio confirmed Matt Shazama and Burke Sharpless as screenwriters, who were behind the spin-off of Spider-Man's pal Morbius. And in February of this year, talks were already underway for Dakota Johnson to participate in the project.
Who will be in the cast of the film?
While there is no official statement about who will play the roles, many publications have reported that it is Johnson who has been confirmed as Madame Web. In June, the actress detailed her experience in a conversation with Collider, fueling interest in a potential blockbuster after working in such small films as "The Lost Daughter" (2021) and "Cha Cha Real Smooth" (2022). "Having worked in just about every genre, I can bring something from small films to big ones... In general, I like to watch large-scale films made with soul," the actress noted.
Joining the "Fifty Shades of Grey" star on set is Sydney Sweeney. She personally confirmed in May at the Met Gala 2022 that she would begin work on "Madame Web" in the summer. Later that month, she admitted in a conversation with Variety at the Cannes Film Festival that she ordered "a stack of comic book books" to prepare for the role. "Actively studying. In fact, I've always been a fan of Marvel movies," the star of the "Euphoria" series reported. "I grew up on them and have been absorbed in that world my whole life, so to be a part of it is such a great fortune for me."
Adam Scott, Emma Roberts, Isabela Merced, Celeste O'Connor, Tahar Rahim and Mike Epps have also been added to the cast of the project.
What does the set look like?
In the published photos from the shooting, fans paid attention to Johnson's red leather coat and remembered Julia Carpenter, who flaunted exactly the same outfit in the comics under the names Spiderwoman and Madame Spider Web. Thus, Dakota formally confirmed her role in this film. Other "stills" from Boston Globe reporter Kevin Slane show a movie set with a Palm Pilots commercial (the prototype of today's smartphones) "at 3G speed" and a billboard with Beyoncé's debut album, suggesting that the movie -- or at least some of its sequences -- takes place in the early 2000s. Perhaps it has something to do with the psychic heroine's ability to see into the future.
When the film "Madame Spider Web" is released?
Filming will begin in mid-July in Boston and will generally take place in Massachusetts with plans to move to New York and Mexico City. Columbia and Marvel plan to complete production in mid-October of this year, and to premiere on October 6, 2023.
