American actor Timothée Chalamet considers the film "Wonka" a "Christmas movie", calling it "joyful" and "fantastic." Speaking to PA news agency on the red carpet at the world premiere in London, the actor said: “He's encouraging. He's fantastic. It's huge."
In the film, Chalamet played the main role of chocolatier Willy Wonka. The story about him is a spin-off of the story by British writer Roald Dahl “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” At the gala evening, Timothy was joined by co-stars Olivia Colman, Matt Lucas, Matthew Baynton, Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins and others.
“David Heyman is a producer, he didn’t direct it, but all the films he makes, Harry Potter, Barbie, they all show huge worlds, and this is one of them,” the leading actor added in a conversation with reporters . For his part, the film's director Paul King called Chalamet "wonderful."
“Our Willy Wonka is the character who was 25 years before the events at the chocolate factory. So it's a completely different character. He (Chalamet) didn't have to copy anyone's performance or impress anyone. It's mostly his own idea for the character. But the most important thing, in my opinion, is that he captured the warmth of Willy Wonka and his ability to create miracles. Because Willy Wonka - he, of course, has a fragile, noble appearance - but in essence he has an incredibly generous soul who wants to devote his life to working in a chocolate factory. He has a generous heart and it's fun to watch the character take his first steps into the world at a young age,” King added.
The role of Wonka before Chalamet was played by Gene Wilder in 1971 and Johnny Depp in 2005. The film "Wonka" will be released in cinemas on December 8th.
