The ceremony, hosted by actor and comedian Anthony Anderson, included both historic victories and high-profile acceptance speeches. Christina Applegate received a standing ovation

The actress, who was nominated for an Emmy eight times and received it in 2003, took the stage to announce her first nomination. Several years ago she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, so she appeared on stage with a cane. The audience rose to their feet, greeting Applegate with a standing ovation.

Quinta Brunson breaks the silence

The Abbott Elementary star won an Emmy for Outstanding Performance in a Comedy Series. Thus, the more than 40-year pause of black actresses receiving awards in this category was broken. In 1981, Isabelle Sanford won an Emmy for her work on The Jeffersons (1975-1985).

Elton John received EGOT status

The 76-year-old singer and composer received a special Emmy for his concert “Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium” and, as a result, became the winner of four prestigious American awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. The 53-year-old actress took home the Emmy for Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for the drama Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Thanking the series' writers and colleagues, Nash amazed viewers with an unexpected twist. “Do you know who else I want to thank? I want to say thank you to myself. Kieran Culkin reminded his wife of his promise from the stage

Macaulay Culkin's younger brother won an Emmy for best lead actor in a drama series, Descendants, beating out co-stars Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong. After thanking his colleagues, writers, mother and manager, Kieran turned to his wife Jazz Charton. “Thank you for sharing your life with me, and for two beautiful children. I love you so much and so much. And Jazz, I want more (children). You said “maybe” if I win.”
