The romantic comedy "Ticket to Paradise" will be out on October 26
Owners of cinema chains have already been able to see the new picture at ComicCon in Las Vegas.
Longtime friends and creative partners George Clooney and Julia Roberts exchange back-stabbing and funny dance moves in "Ticket to Paradise." In this romantic comedy, they played the roles of ex-spouses with complicated relationships. Universal Pictures Studios presented the film to potential distributors at ComicCon in Las Vegas.
The A-list stars of the film did not attend this preview in person, but film industry insiders were pleased with their on-screen reunion and the final product released under the direction of Ola Parker.
According to the plot, the ex-spouses fly to Bali to stop their daughter (Caitlin Deaver), who is madly in love, from taking the dangerous step of getting married to a man she barely knows. In the trailer, which is not yet available to the general public, ComicCon viewers were able to see a few funny moments. Including Clooney's character drinking with everyone on the island under the table and playing beer pong, the loss of which causes him to act "wave" and "jolly chicken."
Another laugh-out-loud moment involves Roberts and Clooney's characters refusing to sit next to each other on an airplane and hurling insults until the flight attendant allows them to switch seats. "The worst nineteen years of my life," Clooney says, to which Roberts replies: "We were only married five." "That includes years of recovery, too" her partner parries.
But the characters decide to put aside their differences and unite for the sake of their daughter, who they believe may be making the greatest mistake of her life by marrying a stranger. "We have to do a Trojan Horse to convince her that we're okay with it," Clooney's character tells his ex-wife. But their daughter isn't so easily fooled. While they're sunbathing on the beach, she shows up and says, "You don't have to do a whole Trojan Horse."
Director Ol Parker is well known for "Mamma Mia! 2" (2018) and "Hotel Marigold: The Best of the Exotic" (2011). Not only did he direct Ticket to Heaven, but he also wrote the screenplay with Daniel Pipsky.
Let me remind you, Roberts, the acknowledged star of romantic comedies, has not worked in this genre for almost 20 years. After such films as "Pretty Woman" (1990), "My Best Friend's Wedding" (1997), "Runaway Bride" (1999), "Notting Hill" (1999) and "Eat, Pray, Love" (2010), the actress claimed that she tried to find a script that she fell in love with but couldn't do it for a long time until she read "Ticket to Paradise." As a bonus, the director suggested Julia to reunite with George on screen for the first time since working on the heist thriller "Money Monster" (2016). They also collaborated on Steven Soderbergh's "Ocean's Eleven" (2001) and "Ocean's Twelve" (2004).
Until recently, romantic comedies in Hollywood were considered a dying genre, at least such conclusions could be drawn from the box office. However, the genre showed signs of revival this spring with "Lost City," starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. This comedy, adventure and romance film grossed $100 million at the box office.
Universal, the studio behind "Ticket to Paradise," hopes their film will also be a success.
