Harry Potter will return to screens, at least small ones, in 2026. It will be available for streaming on the Max service with seven seasons, which is how many books JK Rowling wrote about the boy wizard and his friends/enemies. This information was released by the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery David Zaslav.

“We have never hidden our excitement for Harry Potter,” he said. “And we really spent a lot of time with Joan and her team.” Both parties are incredibly excited about the revival of the franchise. Communication is productive and the future is inviting. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories on Max with fans around the world.”

From 2001 to 2011 Warner Bros. released eight full-length feature films about Harry Potter. Since then, there has been constant talk among both fans and the film community about the need to adapt the magical world created by J. Rowling for television.

It is not yet known who will star in the television series. But the fact that these will be mostly new faces can be said with complete confidence. The performer of Harry Potter in the films, Daniel Radcliffe, previously said, commenting on possible participation in the project, that he “definitely does not in any way strive for this.” And a representative from Warner Bros. Channing Dungey explained that now it's not really about casting, but more about how to develop a television narrative.

“We are in talks with several writers to figure out who the right person will be to lead the franchise,” she noted. “Once we decide on a showrunner, we can start talking about actors.” The hardest part is adapting the first two books, which feature younger children, around 11 or 12 years old.”

For her part, Potter author JK Rowling deals with critics, rather, not of her work, but of her social position. They recently announced that due to the writer's loud statements that contradict the generally accepted opinion in the West on gender issues, they are ready to boycott the future television series. "Forewarned is forearmed. “I took precautions and prepared a large supply of champagne,” Rowling responded to everyone dissatisfied on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
