The trailer for the fifth season of "The Handmaid's Tale" is out
The new episodes promise even more struggle on the part of the main character, the maid June, against the totalitarian Gilead.
The more changes, the more unchanging things. June (Elisabeth Moss) may have gotten her pound of fair flesh by eliminating Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes), but the fifth season trailer is not much different from previous trailers. Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) still harasses the maids, June is still the queen of the detached gaze, and the world of "The Handmaid's Tale" resembles a blurry, shaky pre-dawn nightmare as before.
"I killed him ... and I loved him so much," June confesses to Luke (O. T. Fugbenley) in the trailer. This resounding statement, however, comes as no surprise to those who have watched June's development over the previous seasons. However, her methods of fighting Gilead may seem controversial to some. "If you're not careful, she'll pull you down with her," Rita (Amanda Bruegel) warns Moira (Samira Wiley) not to mess with the rebellious June.
The series "The Handmaid's Tale" was launched in 2017. Its plot is based on the novel-antiutopia of the same name by Canadian writer Margaret Atwood and tells about the mythical totalitarian state of Gilead, which emerged after the collapse of the United States. The social system in the new society has changed dramatically - only selected women give birth to children, who in their spare time serve their man and his official wife.
The fifth season of The Handmaid's Tale is scheduled to premiere on the Hulu streaming service on September 14.
