Disney announced the title of the Avatar sequel

The movie studio promised to release its trailer next week.

Disney has officially clarified the name of the first sequel film in the Avatar franchise, Avatar: The Way of the Water. This was done at the ongoing CinemaCon film fair in Las Vegas, with franchise producer John Landau telling the crowd, "One of the strongest aspects of (James Cameron's) scripts is that they are always universal and connected to the themes he integrates into them."

Landau added: "At the center of each of the four sequels will be Sully's family. Each story will be self-contained and contain its own conclusion." Even so, according to the producer, all four films are being developed as a single, epic, saga. "Avatar: The Way of the Water" is the first of the planned sequels to be released.

At CinemaCon you could also spotted James Cameron himself. He came right from New Zealand, where he is currently busy filming the franchise and took part in a virtual presentation of the project. He noted that on the screen viewers will find something previously unseen. The image will change for the better "thanks to high frame rates, higher resolution 3D technology and more realistic special effects." "I want our return to Pandora to be, indeed, special. Every frame is designed for the biggest screen, the highest resolution and the most immersive 3D available. I believe we can pull it off," Cameron added.

Avatar: The Way of the Water stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel Moore, C.H. Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi and Kate Winslet.

The sequel is scheduled to premiere on December 14. The trailer will be available next week.
