Keanu Reeves and Cary Ann-Moss' characters, Neo and Trinity, are known to return in The Matrix Resurrections. However, Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving's characters, Morpheus and Agent Smith, did not appear on screen in the fourth installment as previously announced. Instead, the new Morpheus was introduced as a computer program. She was embodied on screen by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, while Jonathan Groff portrayed a fresh version of Smith. Jada Pinkett Smith also appeared briefly in Resurrection as the angel Niobe. Social media users have already speculated that these characters will also appear in the fifth "Matrix."

Will the Wachowski sisters return to directing?

Not directly. Lana Wachowski, who directed the fourth "Matrix", will produce the fifth part. And Lily Wachowski, in general, will not participate in the new project, as it was in the case of the previous movie.
