In 1999, the movie "The Matrix" was released, capturing the minds and hearts of the audience. It was followed in 2003 by two sequels "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions", respectively. But it took almost two decades to release the fourth installment "The Matrix Resurrections" (2021), which showed not very good collections. With a budget of $190 million, the picture earned just over $157 million. Despite the fact that it could have ended, in general, a successful franchise, but the producer, the film studio Warner Bros. announced the other day plans to shoot a fifth series, which, indeed, should be the finale. Who will we see on the screen in the fifth "Matrix"?

Now it is impossible to answer this question for sure. Warner Bros. has not announced whether the new movie will be directed as a sequel to the previous four films or have a separate story. Keanu Reeves and Cary Ann-Moss' characters, Neo and Trinity, are known to return in The Matrix Resurrections. However, Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving's characters, Morpheus and Agent Smith, did not appear on screen in the fourth installment as previously announced. Instead, the new Morpheus was introduced as a computer program. She was embodied on screen by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, while Jonathan Groff portrayed a fresh version of Smith. Jada Pinkett Smith also appeared briefly in Resurrection as the angel Niobe. Social media users have already speculated that these characters will also appear in the fifth "Matrix."

Will the Wachowski sisters return to directing?

Not directly. Lana Wachowski, who directed the fourth "Matrix", will produce the fifth part. And Lily Wachowski, in general, will not participate in the new project, as it was in the case of the previous movie.

Who will shoot the fifth "Matrix"?

It is known that the creator of the Marvel series "Daredevil" (2015-1018) Drew Goddard will write the script and shoot the next part of the franchise. Moreover, will do so on the original idea, which has already stated at the pitching Warner Bros. In a special statement, Warner Bros. explained why it chose Goddard to work on the fifth "Matrix". "Drew presented a new idea that we think will be an incredible way to continue the world of The Matrix. It combines both an homage to what Lana and Lily Wachowski did 25 years ago and a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters," said film producer Jesse Ehrman. - The entire team at Warner Bros. When will the fifth "Matrix" hit wide screens?

The movie does not yet have a release date and is not even listed on the Warner Bros. movie premiere schedule.
