Joker: Folie à Deux movie is rated R

"Joker: Madness for Two" has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA). Which means parents are urged to think twice before allowing under 17-year-olds to watch the movie. The musical, a sequel to The Joker (2019), starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, is labeled this way given the "scenes of severe violence, profanity and nudity" it contains, the MPA said in a bulletin. The R mark given to the second film about the escapades of street clown Arthur Fleck fits the storyline of the original movie - "The Joker" had a similar rating.

Both the first movie and the second one were directed by Todd Phillips. Phoenix reprised his on-screen role as Fleck, or the Joker, while Gaga portrayed his romantic interest and battle buddy Harley Quinn. In addition to Phoenix and Gaga, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener and Brendan Gleeson will appear on screen.
Although plot details for "Folie à Deux" are being kept secret, Variety reported in March that the movie will feature no less than 15 different interpretations of well-known songs. One of them is the song "That's Entertainment" from the 1953 musical "Theater Wagon," sung by Judy Garland. In addition, the film should sound a couple of original tracks.
After winning the Golden Lion at the 2019 Venice Film Festival, the first "Joker" grossed more than $1 billion at the box office and earned 11 Oscar nominations. Phoenix received a Best Actor nomination.

For her part, Gaga has successfully integrated herself from the pop scene into Hollywood, starring in the critically acclaimed films A Star Is Born (2018) and House of Gucci (2021). For the first film, she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress. And eventually, she won the prestigious award for "Best Song" - the track "Shallow".

Premiere of the film "Joker: Folie à Deux" is scheduled in theaters on October 4, 2024.
