A film by French filmmakers, the historical drama “Jeanne DuBarry,” was presented in London. The event took place almost a year after the world premiere of the film at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2023. Then the film crew received a 7-minute ovation from the audience.

This time, almost all participants in the project, led by the main stars - director/actress Maiwenn and Johnny Depp, appeared on the red carpet. The film tells the enchanting story of a girl who rose from the bottom and became the favorite of the King of France.

In a conversation with the audience after the show, the actor lifted the veil of secrecy over how, after the scandalous trial with Amber Heard, he received a role in the French project. As you know, in Hollywood, the Pirates of the Caribbean star was no longer invited to work after an ugly story with his ex-wife, who accused him of domestic violence.

According to Depp, he was surprised when he received an offer to play King Louis XV in “Jeanne Dubary.” “It’s ingrained in your head that you’re from eastern Kentucky... you know, you come from ‘ombelico nombril’ - a hole in nowhere, and you’re being offered the role of the king of France,” Depp said. “It didn’t make any impression on me, I tried to convince her not to take me.” But she didn’t listen and was determined to approve me into the cast. And no matter what we did, no matter what we went through, I think and hope that you will understand that it was worth the suffering and trying to make this film."

Depp also called himself a "weird, weird, amazing lucky guy" who got the role straight away. “Because when Maiwenn and I actually met for the first time and talked about making a film and me playing Louis XV, my mind instantly went back to hot Kentucky. You can understand what it’s like to come out of nowhere and suddenly play the King of France,” Johnny added.

The premiere of “Jeanne Dubarie” in cinemas is scheduled for May 2.
