Author George R.R. Martin, whose novels were used in the TV series Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, has confirmed a new project. The series in question is Ten Thousand Ships. The script for it will be written by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Ebony Booth. “When she’s not writing and producing her award-winning Broadway plays, she’s busy with me and HBO working on a new pilot for Ten Thousand Ships, a House of the Dragon spin-off about Nymeria and the Rhoynar,” the author wrote on his blog. “We’re all very excited about this project… even though we’re still trying to figure out how we’re going to pay for ten thousand ships, three hundred dragons, and those giant turtles.”

Previously, the original script for Ten Thousand Ships was written by Brian Helgeland, best known for his work on 2001's A Knight's Tale. He told Inverse that Martin liked his version of the prequel, but HBO ultimately decided not to pursue it. "It was good, but I think they felt like the time period I was taking was too far removed from the original," he said. "That's why nothing's done yet, but nothing's dead. My script was based on Queen Nymeria, and this little bluff about her that's in the Westerosi encyclopedia," he added. "It was basically the story of Moses, but swapped for Nymeria. Her country is destroyed and the people are forced to live on the water, which is why the show was called Ten Thousand Ships. Eventually, they have to leave and find a new home, like the Israelites did."

Let me remind you that House of the Dragon is also a prequel to Game of Thrones, which aired on HBO from 2011 to 2019. The second season of the series starts this Sunday, June 16.
