Miranda Priestly is back and ready to glare at uncooperative employees in the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. Disney has launched development on the sequel starring Meryl Streep, who played the fashion magazine editor-in-chief “from hell” in the 2006 film. She will be co-starring with Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, who will play secretaries Andy Sachs and Emily Charlton, respectively.

The original screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), is currently negotiating the terms of her work on the sequel with the company. It is not yet known exactly who will return to the project from the actors, but there are rumors that Streep and Blunt have already signed contracts. The plot of the sequel will be built around the heroine Meryl, trying to cope with the new, digital, reality and the departure of magazines to the Internet. Meanwhile, Blunt will appear on screen as a successful businesswoman, heading one of the luxury brand groups and managing a multi-million dollar budget, part of which Priestley is trying to get.

"The Devil Wears Prada" was based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger about the nightmarish experience of working as a novice secretary at a glossy magazine (Weisberger worked as a personal assistant to the editor of American Vogue Anna Wintour). The film was a box office hit, grossing $326.7 million worldwide and earning Streep a Golden Globe and Academy Award nomination for Best Comedy Actress. Costume designer Patricia Field also received an Oscar nomination.

After the film's release, fans never tired of speculating about another "meeting" of Miranda, Andy, and Emily. The actresses also kept viewers interested, saying in interviews that they would like to work on a sequel again. And they even reunited on stage last February, announcing one of the SAG Awards nominations. Hathaway and Blunt also said that Streep had the hardest time on the set, since she was practicing the Stanislavsky system at the time, known in the West as the Method, and tried not to leave the image of the tough Miranda Priestly. "We were just having fun while working on the film," Emily said. "I'm not sure any of us expected it to become what it became. It reminds me of itself every week." In addition to Disney's development of a sequel, the musical "The Devil Wears Prada" is scheduled to premiere in London's West End in October. Vanessa Williams will play Priestley, and the soundtrack will feature Elton John's compositions.
