The trailer for the second Gladiator has been released

Ridley Scott's historical epic is considered one of the most anticipated this year.

Paramount Pictures has finally released a trailer for the historical action film Gladiator 2. This is a sequel to the 2000 hit starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix. Like 24 years ago, the sequel was directed by Ridley Scott. However, we will not see Crowe and Phoenix on screen this time, but Connie Nielsen and Derek Jacobi, who starred in the original film, will reprise their roles. Among the newcomers to the project, we note Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn and Denzel Washington.

What is Gladiator 2 about

The plot of the film is built around the events that take place 20 years after what happened in the first Gladiator. At the time, this film became a “reboot” of the historical genre in cinema. According to the official synopsis, Gladiator 2 continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and revenge in Ancient Rome. “Years after the death of the revered hero Maximus, which Lucius witnessed, he is forced to step into the arena of the Colosseum to confront the tyrant emperors who conquered his homeland and rule Rome with an iron fist. With anger in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find the strength and honor to restore Rome and its citizens to their former glory.”

Gladiator 2 Premiere Date

The film will hit theaters this fall, on November 22.

The cast of Gladiator 2

As already mentioned, Crowe and Phoenix did not take part in the filming of the second movie. Connie Nielsen again played the role of Emperor Marcus Aurelius' daughter Lucilla, and Derek Jacobi played Senator Gracchus. Paul Mescal will portray the main character Lucius, Pedro Pascal - the Roman general Marcus Acacia, Joseph Quinn - the Emperor Geta, Denzel Washington - Macrinus and Fred Hehringer - the Emperor Caracalla.

Gladiator 2 and the musical Wicked may become the new Barbiegamer

A new phenomenon arose in cinema last year - the double premiere of films forced viewers, as a rule, to watch them both on the same day. This was the case with the "pop" "Barbie" and the highly intellectual "Oppenheimer", which allowed these films to make good box office receipts. The next such phenomenon may be the double premiere, on one day – November 22, of the historical epic “Gladiator 2” and the film musical “Wicked”.

It’s worth refreshing your memories of “Gladiator”

To get the most out of watching Ridley Scott’s sequel, we recommend refreshing your memory or even getting to know the first film – “Gladiator”. You will take a kind of historical excursion into the “universe” of Ancient Rome, and at the same time see spectacular gladiator fights, the fearless Russell Crowe in one of them and Joaquin Phoenix grinning from the stands in an imperial robe and with a crown on his head.
