Ridley Scott begins shooting of the movie "Napoleon"

Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby will play the lead roles.

The cast has arrived in Malta to begin work on Ridley Scott's new film "Napoleon" on Monday. The plot will be based on the events surrounding the high-ranking military man's rise to power in 1799. The script was written by David Scarpa. Dariusz Wolski will be behind the camera. Joaquin Phoenix will play Napoleon Bonaparte, and Vanessa Kirby - his wife, Josephine Bogarne. Besides them, the historical film will star Tahar Rahim, Youssef Kerkur, John Hollinworth, Edouard Philipponna and Alfredo Tavares.

Filming in Malta, according to Apple Studios, will take place in Attard, Senglea, Valletta, Mellieha, Sijivi, Fort Ricasoli and at the Malta Film Studios pavilions.

Ridley Scott previously worked in Malta with White Squall (1996) and Gladiator (2000).
