Will Smith returned to the screen
This is the 54-year-old actor's first appearance on screen since a high-profile assault incident at the last Oscar ceremony.
Apple TV+ has released the first trailer for the new slavery drama Liberation. It will be released in theaters and on the digital platform on December 9. Will Smith is starring in the film, and this is his first project since his clash at this year's Oscars with comedian Chris Rock. Remember, Smith then stood up for his wife, Jada Pinkett, by punching Rock in the face for a offencive joke.
The filmmaker Antoine Fuqua was inspired to make Emancipation by photographs from 1893 illustrating the consequences of slavery. One of them depicted a dark-skinned man with scars from whipping.
"Throughout my career, I refused to make many films that dealt with the subject of slavery. I never wanted to show us like that. And then I got my hands on this picture," Smith told The Hollywood Reporter. "And it's not a film about slavery. It's a movie about freedom. It's a film about resilience. It's a movie about faith."
