"Didn't Work" with Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway: a series about self-confid

Its plot follows the true story of Adam Neumann and his workspace rental company WeWork. Many critics are already calling the series the best drama show of 2022.

The idea for the startup WeWork came from the mind of Israeli Adam Neumann, played by Jared Leto in the new series. The businessman suggested that commercial companies reduce the cost of renting office space by using co-working technology. It boils down to the fact that several market players at once rent large spaces and place their employees there. Launched in 2018, WeWork was not the first to promote such a scheme, but very soon became perhaps the most famous in the field of commercial real estate. Its eccentric leader attracted solid investors, largely through hosting numerous parties, and eventually capitalized the company at $47 billion.

The series "It Didn't Work" is just one part of the big story that WeWork has managed to acquire in the short period of its existence. The Apple TV+ project is based on the Wondery podcast of the same name, a Hulu documentary, and two books about the company's history. From Hulu's "WeWork: Or the Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn
" to Netflix's "Inventing Anna" mini-series about the business frauds of the past decade have now reached new levels of popularity. And judging by the ratings, "It Didn't Work" has generated a lot of interest among viewers, and some consider it almost the best drama TV show of the year.

The plot of the series revolves around Adam and his wife and WeWork muse Rebekah, from the founding of the company to its collapse and Neumann's resignation as CEO. The creators have been careful in their coverage of many moments, detailing key milestones in WeWork's history and depicting how Neumann was perceived by subordinates and investors. The narrative is replete with elements that are hard to believe, from Adam's partnership with the head of SoftBank, Japanese Masayoshi Son (Kim Yi-sung) to the heavily promoted "S-1" model.

Whenever the Neumanns come up with another crazy idea and the audience realizes its ridiculousness, the show shows the delusion in which these two live, and how they can believe that the wildest ideas are, in fact, great. It's not just the replaying of these moments that elicits laughs; the reality of the situations and the reactions of the more intellectually advanced characters enhances the genius of such scenes.

"It Didn't Work," of course, would not have worked without the involvement of two top-notch actors who make the viewer believe that their characters could find customers for their craziness. But both Leto and Hathaway are perfect in maintaining a balance of extreme credibility and insane pretentiousness. In addition to them, Cricket Brown, Kyle Marvin, O.T. Fugbenley, Theo Stockman, and Peter Jacobson contributed to the project. The screenplay was written by Drew Crevello and Lee Eisenberg.

Before the launch of the series on Apple TV+ Anne Hathaway said that to immerse herself in the role of Rebekah she had to go on a strict vegetarian diet with an element of raw food. That was the dietary system her character adhered to. And Jared noted the "national" component to the project. "I loved the accent (Neumann). I had a great team that I worked with. A great team of Israelis who supported, taught and guided me." In addition, the image of Adam was not without an external transformation, which has become a tradition for Leto. With the help of special extensions and makeup changed the actor's nose and cheekbones; lenses changed the color of his eyes from blue to brown, and hair dye to complete the job, turning him from brown to burning brunette.

The series premiered on March 18, when three episodes were posted. And then new episodes began to appear on the platform at weekly intervals, until April 22.
