Ecuador's first metro line opens

Its length is about 23 kilometers.

Ecuador's first metro line began operating on Monday in the capital, Quito, according to an announcement made by the management of the underground public transport system on its Twitter page.

This metro line stretches for almost 23 kilometers, has 15 stations, of which 14 are open to passengers so far.

It took almost ten years to build the subway. Initially, its opening was planned for the second half of 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic has made adjustments.

In the future, two more underground transport lines may appear to the city infrastructure.
