Earthquake hits Turkey, worst natural disaster since 1939

More than 9,000 rescuers are working in the earthquake-hit regions of Turkey.

In the morning hours in Turkey, as a result of a 7.7 magnitude earthquake, the epicenter of which was the Pazardzhik region of Kahramanmarash, the earthquake also shook Kahramanmarash, Kilis, Diyarbakir, Adana, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Sanliurfu, Adiyaman, Malatya and Hatay. The earthquake in 10 provinces killed a total of 912 people, another 5,385 were injured.

According to Erdogan, 2,818 buildings were destroyed. Search and rescue operations of people left under the rubble continue.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today's earthquake was the biggest natural disaster in Turkey since 1939, when more than 30,000 people died as a result of the earthquake.

The earthquake was also felt in neighboring countries: Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Cyprus and Iraq.
