Experts talk about the earthquake in Turkey
Earthquakes occurred in close proximity to the Earth's surface, which greatly increased the scale of destruction.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a statement in connection with the earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 that occurred in the republic.
According to him, the nation is going through the most painful days in history. Two strong earthquakes that occurred in the Pazardzhik and Elbistan regions of Kahramanmarash caused serious damage in 10 provinces in a vast area where about 13.5 million of our citizens live.
Experts describe the two quakes as "exceptional ground movements, unparalleled in the world." Both occurred in close proximity to the surface of the Earth, which greatly increased the scale of destruction.
"We are facing one of the greatest catastrophes not only in the history of our Republic, but also in the world," the Turkish leader said.
Currently, 26,000 search and rescue services are working at the site of the destruction. In addition, measures are being implemented to meet all the needs of earthquake survivors, from shelter to clothing, from food to heating. So far, 54,000 tents, 102,000 beds and other essentials have been sent to the region to help the victims.
