Rich foreigners from Asia, Europe, North and South America, Oceania and the Caribbean, and the Persian Gulf benefited the most from the scheme

A total of 1,532 applicants have gained Maltese citizenship since 2014 through the Golden Passport scheme, known as the individual investor program, Homeland Security Minister Byron Camilleri said.

He said wealthy foreigners from Asia, Europe, North and South America, Oceania and the Caribbean, and the Persian Gulf have benefited the most from the scheme.

The report, provided by Times Malta, noted that the National Fund for Development and Social Development has received a total of 27.8 million euros of income from the program "Golden Passport", so the total amount of income since its inception was just under 600 million euros.

Earlier it became known that Ireland is terminating its program "Golden Visa" for wealthy foreign investors.
