The Eiffel Tower is in danger: it was only painted instead of overhauled
According to some reports, Paris authorities turn a blind eye to the unsatisfactory condition of one of its most famous landmarks.
The symbol of Paris and France, the Eiffel Tower is in poor condition. Marianne magazine reports this, citing confidential information obtained from sources close to the capital's administration. The structure is covered with rust and in need of major repairs. But instead it was painted for 60 million euros on the eve of the 2024 Olympic Games to be held in Paris.
The 324-meter wrought iron tower, designed by Gustave Eiffel in the late 19th century, is one of the most visited tourist sites in the world. Every year about six million people climb it.
However, the structure requires constant monitoring and maintenance, which, according to experts, are insufficient in the current conditions. "It's very simple, if Eiffel were to visit this place now, he would have a stroke," one of the managers in charge of maintaining the tower admitted in an interview with Marianne.
