Elizabeth II died at the age of 96

The Queen of Great Britain and the Commonwealth Realm has died at the age of 96. She had been on the throne for 71 years, breaking the record of her grandmother, Queen Victoria.

Doctors had earlier reported that the monarch's health had deteriorated. They expressed concern and advised the queen to stay under medical supervision. All four of the monarch's children and her grandson Prince William came to Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where the queen was staying. Prince Harry also went there, but alone, without Meghan Markle.

Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926 in London into the family of the Duke and Duchess of York, and was the eldest daughter of George, Duke of York, the future King of the United Kingdom George VI. Ten-year-old Elizabeth received the title of heir to the British throne following the abdication of her uncle, King Edward VIII, and her father's accession to the throne (December 1936).

King George VI passed away on February 6, 1952, due to lung disease, and on the same day Elizabeth was proclaimed Queen of Britain. The official coronation ceremony for the new monarch took place on June 2, 1953, at the Palace of Westminster.

Elizabeth II is the oldest monarch in the history of the country, and the longest reigning monarch.

In connection with the death of Elizabeth II the British flag is lowered over Buckingham Palace.

The new king, according to the act of succession, will be her eldest son Prince Charles.
