Nobel Prize in Physics is awarded
Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser, and Anton Zeilinger received the prestigious award for "experiments with entangled photons, revealing a violation in Bell's inequality," and for pioneering the field of quantum computer science.
The Nobel Prize in Physics ceremony was held on Tuesday, October 4. Frenchman Alain Aspect, Austrian Anton Zeilinger and American John F. Klaizer received it in 2022 for their research in quantum mechanics.
"For experiments with entangled photons, the establishment of the violation of Bell's inequalities, and innovation in quantum informatics," reads a press release published on the prize's official website.
Alain Aspect, John Clauser and Anton Zeilinger conducted pioneering experiments using entangled quantum states, where two particles behave as one, even when they are separated. Their results paved the way for a new technology based on quantum information.
Earlier, the winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was announced. It was the Swedish biologist Svante Paabo for his research on human evolution.
