For many years, the territory of Cameroon, located just north of the equator on the western edge of Africa, was inhabited by various tribes - until, at the end of the 19th century, it became a German colony. Then the British and French ruled over Cameroon, and in 1960 it gained independence.

The oil, aluminum and food industries are well developed in Cameroon; coffee, bananas, cotton, and cocoa beans are grown here. Nevertheless, this is not the most prosperous country, even by African standards: there are enough civil strife and the poor.

The most popular sports in Cameroon are athletics and football. Triple jumper Françoise Mbango won Olympic gold twice, the football team achieved the same success in 2000.

The Cameroonians are one of the strongest teams on the continent, having won the Cup in 1984, 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2017. And in the final part of the World Cup, the Indomitable Lions made their way for the first time in 1982, and although they never won, they never lost, ending the matches with Peru, Poland and the future champion Italy.

And at the 1990 World Cup, the Cameroonians already made a notable noise. They started the tournament with a sensational victory over the reigning world champion Argentina - 1:0. François Omam-Biyik's magnificent jump goal was remembered by millions of fans. Then double 37-year-old Roger Milla left with nothing Romania - 2:1. True, in the end, the Cameroonians fell under the rink of the USSR national team - 0:4, but the Soviet team flew out, and the African team won the group stage. The miracles did not end there: in the 1/8 finals, the old man Milla again scored a double and helped to pass Colombia - 2:1 in extra time. And in the quarterfinals against England again came to overtime, but this time, leading in the long run, “Indomitable Lions” lost – 2:3.

It is surprising that the 42-year-old Milla also played at the 1994 World Cup and even scored a goal against the Russian team, but it was a goal of prestige: 1:6 from Russia, 0:3 from Brazil and 2:2 with the Swedes - there is no way to repeat the success managed. It has not been possible to do this so far: in 1998, 2002, 2010 and 2014, the Cameroon national team did not leave the group.

Only two football players from the application of the Cameroonians for the World Cup represent the local championship: the rest play in Europe, the USA and Saudi Arabia. As part of the Lions, our attention is primarily focused on Gael Ondua, a Russian citizen, the son of a Cameroonian and a Russian. Since the Russian national team was banned from participating in the fight for a ticket to the 2022 World Cup, this guy who played for Anji and now plays for Hannover 96 will be our representative in Qatar. And, by the way, proud of it. Also in the application of Cameroon - Dynamo Moscow striker Mumi Ngamalyo.

Well, the most famous are strikers Vincent Abubakar (Al-Nasr) and Eric Choupo-Moting (Bayern), goalkeeper Andre Onana (Inter), ex-Atletico midfielder Pierre Kunde.
