Coach Mauricio Pochettino believes that Argentina striker Lionel Messi needs a victory in the World Cup to consolidate his star status.
“The World Cup is a special tournament. Like Maradona and Pele, he needs to confirm his status as the main trophy of football. When you raise it, you can say about you:“ Yes, he is the best in the world. ”Messi lacks only this title. And I expect that he will win the cup in Qatar," Pochettino was quoted by The Athletic as saying.
The 2022 World Cup will be Messi's last in his career.
