Lionel Messi admits that Argentina "has no excuses"
Argentina suffered one of the most stunning World Cup defeats in history.
A disappointed Lionel Messi admitted that Argentina "has no excuses" after losing to Saudi Arabia. It was one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history.
Saudi Arabia took the lead with a famous 2-1 victory over Argentina, considered by many to be one of the top favorites to win the trophy in Qatar. It was Saudi Arabia's first World Cup victory since 1994, and the first loss in Argentina's 36-match unbeaten streak, which runs through 2019.
"There are no excuses. We will be more united than ever. This group is strong, and they showed it. It's a very hard blow for everyone, we didn't expect it to start like this. Everything happens for a reason. We have to prepare for what's coming, we have to win, and it's up to us. We have to get back to the roots of who we are. We have to think about what lies ahead," Lionel Messi was quoted as saying by Argentina's official Twitter account.
