Manchester United has terminated Cristiano Ronaldo's contract by mutual consent after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.
The club said in a statement, "Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual consent, effective immediately.
The club thanks him for his tremendous contribution in his two seasons at Old Trafford, when he scored 145 goals in 346 games, and wishes him and his family all the best for the future.
Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team's progress under Eric ten Hague and working together to achieve success on the pitch."
Ronaldo released his own statement saying, "After talks with Manchester United, we mutually agreed to terminate our contract early. I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never change. Nevertheless, I think now is the right time to look for a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the rest of the season and for the future."
