Italian mayor of Turin awaits Russian athletes at Unicef 2025

The Russians missed out on a similar tournament this year.

The mayor of the Italian city of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo, has publicly admitted that he wants Russian athletes to take part in the Universiade to be held here in 2025.

"We all know how difficult the situation in the world is right now. But sports should be a messenger of peace and unite people, not divide them into right and wrong," said the mayor.

According to the Italian official, he has always considered Russia to be a great sports power, and without it any tournament immediately loses its appeal.

In 2023, the Universiade was held in American Lake Placid from 12 to 22 June, and the Russians were barred from going there due to sanctions.
