Gennady Golovkin lost IBF world title after refusing to defend it
The athlete made this decision himself.
Well-known boxer from Kazakhstan Gennady Golovkin did not conduct the defense of the world middleweight title by the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
Four months ago the federation appointed him as a contender for the mandatory challenger Esquiva Falcao of Brazil.
Golovkin took time to think it over, but eventually decided to vacate his championship belt, which is now vacant.
The boxer had a total of forty-four fights during his professional career, in which he won forty-two times and lost twice, including his last fight against Saul Alvarez in September 2022.
