The scoring in the duel was opened by the debutant of the New Yorkers, Russian striker Vladimir Tarasenko, who was exchanged by the St. Louis Blues. He was assisted by forward Artemiy Panarin.
Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin saved 26 shots.
