Following Merab Dvalishvili's impressive win over Petr Yan over the weekend, former two-time UFC champion Henry Cejudo proposed that the Georgian fighter defeat teammate Aljamain Sterling in his next title fight and took the proposal to the head of the UFC.
“Why don't we make Merab stand-in for UFC 288? It's sparring and I want to be sure of the fight because there is a feeling that Aljo is retiring. For them, I will have the same plan for the fight: fight and hit every time they try to go for an exchange or a pass. Anyway, Dana White, if you can hear me, let's bench Merab because I want to fight both of them. If I can fight them on the same night, that's even better," Cejudo wrote on social media, referring to the head of the organization.
The title fight between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo will take place on May 6 at UFC 288.
