Alcaraz will start his Miami crown defense this Friday

The Miami Masters 1000 tournament takes place at Miami Gardens from March 22 to April 2.

Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, world number one, will make his debut this Friday at the ATP 1000 Super Tournament in Miami against Argentina's Facundo Bagnis in the third match on center court.

Alcaraz, the recent Indian Wells champion, starts defending last year's crown against Bagnes, who beat Brazil's Felipe Meligeni Alves on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old Spaniard must retain the crown to stay at the top of the world rankings. Otherwise, Serbian Novak Djokovic, absent from Miami due to being unable to enter the United States due to his refusal to get vaccinated against the coronavirus, will regain the lead.
