Benil Dariush refuses to challenge Islam Makhachev

A potential lightweight contender fight will take place on May 6 at UFC 288 in Newark, and the winner could challenge Islam Makhachev on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.

UFC lightweight number four Benil Dariush has explained why he is not going to challenge reigning division champion Islam Makhachev even if he manages to defeat Charles Oliveira next.

"I'm working so hard to win this fight so why would I shine it?" Sportskeeda quoted Dariush as saying. “I'm going to give this shine to the people who help me win fights. I think it's stupid to make all these calls like: "Please fight me!"

At the same time, the American fighter does not exclude that the organization will bypass him with the possibility of a title and allow another contender to fight for the championship belt.

"I don't care. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm not going to beg for a title shot."
