David Benavidez defeats Caleb Plant and wants Canelo Alvarez next
The fight took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
David Benavidez scored the biggest win of his career by defeating Caleb Plant via unanimous decision on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Benavidez's continuous pressure wore him down in the second half of the fight, and Benavidez took the win by 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111.
"I want to give credit to Caleb Plant," Benavidez told ESPN. "We fought like warriors in the ring and this guy is a hell of a fighter. ... I showed defense, head movement ... and cut the ring really well. I hit him a lot of hard punches."
Benavidez also challenged Canelo Alvarez, the undisputed champion at 168 pounds.
Alvarez, boxing's top star, is set to defend his four heavyweight titles against John Ryder on May 6 in Mexico - but Alvarez always fights on Mexico's Independence Day weekend in September.
