Belarusian Arina Sobolenko and Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia continue their successful struggle for the top prize at the WTA-1000 tournament in Miami (USA).
In the 1/8 finals Sobolenko managed to defeat Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-2 in 1 hour and 7 minutes.
Aleksandrova defeated Canada's Bianca Andreescu 6-7(0-7), 2-0, after which the Canadian jerked for the ball, fell to the court and grabbed her left leg around the ankle. The tennis player left the court on a chair.
In the quarterfinals of the tournament Arina Sobolenko will play against Sorana Carstey of Romania, and Ekaterina Alexandrova will meet with Czech player Petra Kvitova.
The prize fund of the tournament is $8.8 million. The reigning champion is Iga Schwentek, who is not taking part in the current competition due to injury.
