Canelo Alvarez minimizes Benavidez

Canelo was not soft when he talked about his place in world boxing today.

Saul Canelo Alvarez continues to prepare for his upcoming fight on May 6 in Guadalajara against John Ryder. However, that doesn't mean he doesn't have time to respond to David Benavidez's interest in a fight with the undisputed super middleweight champion.

During a public workout, Canelo spoke to the media and was asked about Benavidez as a potential opponent. Canelo responded by saying that while Benavidez could be considered a "monster", he doesn't see him at his level.

This is what they said about Golovkin. Outside the ring, having me is not the same as having other fighters. Same with Golovkin, it's the same they said he was a knockout, a monster and at the end of the day... what did he do? They always have someone for me, that was Golovkin, that was Lara. They always said, "he's not going to fight him, he's a monster." If he is a monster, then against whom? Having me is not the same as having other fighters.

When asked about a future fight with Benavidez, Canelo congratulated him on his performance against Caleb Plant, but noted that his first priority was to fight Dimitri Bivol. He said he would consider a fight with Benavidez after that.
