Adrenaline or life: top 5 most dangerous and emotional sports

Athletes risk their lives for the sake of emotions.

Almost any sport is considered dangerous. Track and field athletes have problems with joints, football players and hockey players are not immune from fractures, figure skaters are not immune from falls on bare ice with a variety of consequences. Each of them is aware of the possible health risks, but truly tragic outcomes are the exception rather than the rule. But there are those who deliberately choose extreme and unpredictable sports for themselves. We have collected the five most dangerous ones for you.

Freediving

This is a type of deep diving. Unlike traditional diving, where athletes use a mask and breathing equipment, freedivers dive without any aids - they only have their own lungs and the ability to control the situation in difficult conditions. Beautiful sport often ends in tragedy. Such a test is difficult for even professionals to withstand: for example, 22-time world champion and holder of 41 records Natalya Molchanova died in 2015 during another training session in open water near the Spanish islands. Most likely, the athlete got caught in a strong undercurrent.

BASE jumping

It's almost like skydiving. But if with a standard jump the athlete starts from a helicopter and covers a huge distance to the ground, then with base jumping he descends from a fixed object, often located low enough for a correct landing. The abbreviation BASE, which gave the sport its name, stands for Building, Antenna, Span, Earth (building, antenna, floor, earth). The athlete is in the free flight stage for several seconds; the same amount of time is required to open a special parachute. In addition, during flight a person must have time to position his body correctly. For experienced athletes, a BASE jump can take 11 seconds.

Rugby

Almost any sport is considered dangerous. Track and field athletes have problems with joints, football players and hockey players are not immune from fractures, figure skaters are not immune from falls on bare ice with a variety of consequences. Each of them is aware of the possible health risks, but truly tragic outcomes are the exception rather than the rule. But there are those who deliberately choose extreme and unpredictable sports for themselves. We have collected the five most dangerous ones for you.

This is a team sport that involves chasing an opponent and fighting at high speeds. Often such game collisions result in injuries. Of course, most often the opponents do not set themselves the goal of eliminating their opponent from the game at the cost of his health. But also because of the speed of rugby, it is unpredictable and it is often impossible to predict what consequences the game will lead to.

Cyclocross

What could be more wonderful than a leisurely bike ride on a sunny day? But if you add to it rough terrain, mud, fallen tree trunks, hills and ravines, then there is little pleasant left from such a pastime. And yet there are fans of this sport. The essence of cyclocross is to overcome as many natural and artificial obstacles as possible. The route is circular and is usually about three kilometers long. Another type of such cross is descending from the mountain along a narrow path along cliffs and rocks at maximum speed. At the same time, athletes are often protected only by helmets and elbow pads: injuries are inevitable in such a sport.

Rafting

This is a type of rafting on water, most often along mountain rivers. Athletes overcome rapids of different difficulty levels on small rafts. They are almost unprotected and are not insured against strong impacts against rocks and trees. In addition, rafters have to contend with strong currents and whirlpools, which make it difficult to get out of.
