Euro 2024: Group C

On June 16, teams from Group C will enter the competition at the European Football Championship, which is taking place in Germany. We present the participants – the national teams of Slovenia, Serbia, Denmark and England.

The Slovenian National Team

Best achievement

After 24 years, Slovenia returns to the European Championship. In 2000, the team participated in the tournament for the first time and did not advance from the group.

Qualification

The Slovenian team played in the same qualifying group with the Danish team. Both teams scored 22 points after eight games, but the Scandinavians were higher thanks to a home victory – 2:1. The first match between the teams ended in a draw – 1:1.

Players

One of the most famous players of today's Slovenian team is 31-year-old goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who played most of his career in Portugal. There is a player who received a call-up to the Euro from the Russian championship: Vanja Drkušić plays for Sochi.

The Danish team

Best achievement

The Danes will play in the tournament for the 10th time. Their best achievement was the championship in 1992.

Qualification

Denmark won the qualifying group H, beating the Slovenian team on additional indicators. The Danes' most productive match was against San Marino, which they won with a score of 4:0.

Players

At the European Championship, 37-year-old Kasper Schmeichel, the son of the famous goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, will play his 100th match for the Danish national team. He has been recognized as the best footballer in the country four times. He currently plays for the Belgian Anderlecht.

Serbian national team

Best achievement

The Serbs haven't shown themselves in the European Championship for a long time. The best result of the Balkan team (then the Yugoslav national team) dates back to the last century: in 1960 and 1968 they reached the final, but both times they were content with only silver medals.

Qualification

The Serbs took second place in the qualifying group, losing to the Hungarians. The top scorer of the qualification in Group G was Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic.

Players

The Serbs have assembled a team of footballers who play all over the world - here is Djordje Petrovic from London's Chelsea, Dusan Tadic from Turkish Fenerbahce, and even Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Al-Hilal. One of the players - defender Srdjan Babic - plays for Moscow's Spartak.

England national team

Best achievement

The reigning European vice-champions in 2021 missed out on the title on their home stadium, losing to the French at Wembley. Second place was England's best achievement at the Euro.

Qualification

The English won qualifying Group C, scoring 20 points in eight games. The team's biggest win in the qualification was over North Macedonia - 7:0. Bukayo Saka scored a hat-trick in that match. Harry Kane was the top scorer of the qualification, scoring eight goals.

Players

Gareth Southgate has assembled the most competitive squad for the European Championship. Without a doubt, the leader of the current team is 30-year-old Harry Kane. Jude Bellingham, who will only turn 21 during the Euro, has just won the Champions League with Real Madrid. The head coach of the English team will only agree to victory in Germany: he has already stated that if the team does not win the Cup, he will leave the national team.
