Saudi Arabia is getting a giant floating city shaped like a turtle

It will be the largest floating structure ever built.

Saudi Arabia may have a giant floating city shaped like a turtle. Pangeos was named after the supercontinent Pangea, which existed between 200 and 335 million years ago. The terayacht-style project can accommodate up to 60,000 people.

When completed, it will be the largest floating structure ever built, Arabian Business says. It is currently under development. The luxurious project was developed by the Italian design firm Lazzarini.

The floating city will be 1,800 feet long. The wings of Pangeos will be its widest point, measuring 610 meters (2,000 feet).

The floating boat will also contain 19 villas and 64 apartments on each of her turtle wings. Pangeos features a rooftop garden, a shopping center and a beach club.

The "Terashipyard" infrastructure, measuring 650 meters wide and 600 meters long, will also be part of the building's unique design, giving it easy access to the sea. According to the report, Pangeos is designed for non-stop sailing around the world.

It will be equipped with virtually endless clean energy sources. Waves from the ocean and solar panels on the roof are likely to power the engine.

The huge turtle-shaped yacht is expected to travel at a top speed of 5 knots (5.7 mph / 9.2 km/h).

Design firm Lazzarini has yet to unveil the interiors. They are expected to invest $8 billion in construction over 8 years.
